Empowering the Unseen: Women Outreach in Nakiwogo-Entebbe
At Pneuma African Foundation, our heart beats for those whom society often overlooks. Our latest journey took us to the vibrant yet struggling community of Nakiwogo, Entebbe, where we held a transformative outreach dedicated to uplifting impoverished women facing extraordinary challenges.
We reached out to women along the lake shores who are rebuilding their lives amid economic hardship and rehabilitation. With fishing disrupted, many families have lost their source of income—leaving mothers struggling to provide food and education for their children.
Through this outreach, we stand with them to restore hope, dignity, and a path toward a better future.
Together, we can make a difference.

Breaking the Stigma: Mental Health & Poverty
In Nakiwogo, the intersection of extreme poverty and mental health creates a cycle that is difficult to break. We met many women who are not only battling economic hardship but also struggling with untreated mental illness. Without a support system, these women are often marginalized, leaving them vulnerable and isolated.
Our outreach focused on dignity first. We spent time listening to their stories, offering encouragement, and letting them know that they are valuable members of our community. We believe that mental health support is a cornerstone of true empowerment—because a healthy mind is the first step toward a sustainable livelihood.

Skilling for the Future: Tailoring & Technology
To move from survival to self-sufficiency, we introduced a roadmap for economic independence. We are encouraging the women of Nakiwogo to form saving schemes and community groups, allowing them to pool resources and support one another’s growth.
Our long-term commitment involves equipping them with modern, marketable skills:
- Sowing & Tailoring: Providing hands-on vocational training so they can produce goods and start small businesses.
- Computer Literacy: In this information age, digital skills are essential. We are introducing basic computer training to bridge the gap between these women and the modern economy, ensuring they aren’t left behind.

A Growing Family
The women of Nakiwogo are no longer just “beneficiaries”—they are now cherished members of the Pneuma African Foundation community. This outreach was not a one-time event; it was the beginning of a long-term partnership.
We look forward to our return visits to monitor the progress of their saving groups and to begin the intensive skilling phases. Our goal is to see a Nakiwogo where every woman, regardless of her mental or financial starting point, has the tools to build a better life for herself and her children.
